Important Refrigerant Charging Guidance

Refrigerant capacity is a charging specification, not a diagnosis. An A/C system that blows warm air may have a refrigerant leak, compressor problem, airflow restriction, electrical fault or another condition that must be diagnosed before refrigerant is added.

Verify the Vehicle Before Charging

Confirm the model year, engine, refrigerant type and under-hood label. Different engines, production configurations or replacement A/C components may require a different procedure or charge amount.

Charge the System by Weight

After proper recovery and evacuation, the refrigerant should be measured into the system by weight using appropriate service equipment. Pressure readings alone should not be used to determine the final refrigerant charge.

Do Not Add Refrigerant Without Checking for Leaks

A system that has lost refrigerant may have an active leak. Adding refrigerant without inspecting the system can produce temporary cooling while leaving the underlying failure unresolved.
