What temperature should the A/C blow ?

🚗❄️ How Cold Should My Car A/C Be at the Vent?

Your car’s A/C system is designed to provide low-temperature, low-humidity air to the passenger compartment. Here’s how you can check if your system is working efficiently.

Ambient Air Temperature

  • The ambient air temperature must be at least 16°C (60°F).
  • Do not induce additional airflow across the front of the vehicle during the test.

Ideal A/C Performance

  • Recirculation Mode: During high heat and humidity, the A/C system will be more effective in Recirculation mode (MAX-A/C).

Performing a Temperature Check on Your Car A/C

  1. Park the Vehicle: Inside or in the shade.
  2. Ventilate the Interior: Open the windows.
  3. Equalize the A/C System: If it was operating, allow it to equalize for about 2 minutes. Turn off the ignition.
  4. Install A/C Service Center: Install the J-43600 – Acr2000 Air Conditioning Service Center.
  5. Record Ambient Conditions: Record the ambient air temperature and humidity.
  6. Static Pressure Readings: Record the low and high side static pressure readings.

Specified Static Pressure Values

  • More than 16°C (60°F): 345 kPa (50 psi)
  • More than 24°C (75°F): 483 kPa (70 psi)
  • More than 33°C (90°F): 690 kPa (100 psi)

Detailed Temperature Check Procedure

  1. Record Conditions: Note the relative humidity and ambient air temperature at the time of the test.
  2. Close Doors and Windows: Open the driver door window 12.7–15.2 cm (5–6 in).
  3. Set HVAC Controls:
    • A/C on.
    • Coldest temperature setting.
    • Maximum blower speed.
    • Recirculation mode.
    • Instrument panel outlet mode with all I/P outlets open.
  4. Install Thermometers: In the left and right center panel air outlets.
  5. Apply Parking Brake: Place the transmission in PARK (automatic) or NEUTRAL (manual).
  6. Start Engine: Warm to operating temperature.
  7. Operate A/C System: Run for 5 minutes.
  8. Inspect Components: Check for abnormal frost areas and unusual noises.
  9. Record Data: Note panel outlet air temperatures, low-side pressure, and high-side pressure.
  10. Compare Data: Match recorded data with the A/C Performance Table below.
